Joshua 6:2:
The LORD said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor”.
The word see in this verse means, perceiving or ascertaining something apart from seeing it with one’s eyes. The word ascertain means to discover with certainty or sure to come to pass or happen. Sound familiar, NOTHING WAVERING.
What is so interesting about this verse is, this is the first thing that the Lord spoke to Joshua before he told him how to defeat Jericho. When it comes to faith, we have to see our situations as being the finished product. Let me elaborate a little. We have to see our mountain removed spiritually first, before we will ever see it in the natural. If we only see with our natural eyes, then we are living in the wrong realm. The Word declares “the just shall live by FAITH”! (Heb.10:38)
Proverbs 29:18 states, “where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he”.
Vision is the Hebrew word Chazon.Vine’s dictionary defines the word Chazon, as almost always signifying a means of divine revelation. If faith isn’t a revelation to us and deeply embedded into our entire being, then I’m afraid it has just become a form of mental ascension and has no power. Let me put it this way, if you put a motorcycle engine inside of a NASCAR racing car, it is still just a motorcycle. Although it looks like a race car on the outside, it has no power on the inside. When Jesus was talking to His disciples about who He was, and Peter makes the amazing statement of “thou art the Christ.” Jesus responds by telling Peter that “flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but My Father who is Heaven.” (Matthew 16:17)
The Greek meaning of the word reveal is, “to take off the cover or unveil.” Webster’s defines reveal as to make known through divine inspiration. Again we see the importance of us having intimate times with the Father for His Word to become alive in us. The psalmist David cries out in Psalm 119:18 “open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law”. The word open in Hebrew means to uncover or reveal!
Let me close with this, 1 Corinthians 2:14 states, “but the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned”. When it comes to divine revelation, it doesn’t have to be a fresh word from heaven, a vision, or any of the other super spiritual things. All those things are fine, but we can find everything we need to know in His WORD. We just need to be like David and ask the Lord to open our eyes, or like the people in Berea who “searched” the scriptures daily to see if what Paul was preaching was the truth. (Acts 17:11)
The word searched is the same Greek word as discerned in 1Corinthians 2:14 which has the meaning of, to uncover, reveal, investigate, or search out a matter. Let me encourage you to ask the Lord to reveal His truth to you. Knowing the will of God is the ONLY basis for having faith. Faith means, simply knowing that God will do what He promised. You may not know the HOW, but you HAVE TO KNOW THAT HE WILL.
See with your spiritual eyes the completed work of Christ in your life. You ARE ALREADY………… _______________ (fill in the blank)!
